SARANAC LAKE — Winter Carnival King Ricky Sullivan, in full regalia, bowled with the local Special Olympics team at Romano’s Saranac Lanes on Tuesday, as they have every week in the cold months for the past 17 years.

Sullivan said bowling is one of his favorite sports to compete in.

“If I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t be doing it,” he said.

In unified competition, he bowls with Bloomingdale resident Keith Freeman. Coach Donna Walsh said they’re always looking for more people for unified sports, which pairs volunteers with Special Olympic athletes. The bowling team practices every Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m.

On Tuesday, the lanes were full with athletes from Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Placid and Bloomingdale. Sullivan shared high-fives and fist-bumps with his friends when they got strikes and spares, and got big cheers from the Carnival Court when he cleared the lane of pins.

Starting at $4.75/week.
