Lake Placid police charge two in connection with drug sales

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid police recently announced what the department described as two “significant” drug seizures made in this village, the latest in the department’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal drug sales.

Lake Placid police charged Justin T. Vassar, 38, of Lake Placid, with third-degree criminal possession of cannabis on Sept. 29. That same day, Shauna M. Donnelly, 41, of Lake Placid, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, a class B felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, both misdemeanors.

Police say they observed a “suspicious male” — Vassar — in a cemetery who appeared to be talking to someone in a vehicle. When officers arrived, the person in the vehicle drove away. Vassar was allegedly found in possession of approximately 1.6 pounds of cannabis — over the legal limit for possession — along with “other evidence” that indicated the man was selling the cannabis.

Vassar was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in village court.

After Vassar was charged, Lake Placid police pulled over a vehicle driven by Donnelly, who allegedly attempted to flee before she was charged. Police allegedly discovered approximately 360 wax paper envelopes with heroin and other controlled substances in her possession.

Donnelly was arraigned in village court and released. She is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.

These arrests and seizures come just over two months after the department charged three women in connection with a separate investigation.

Officers seized more than 950 bags of heroin and over 70 grams of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and prescription medications in late July following a traffic stop of a U-Haul. In this case alone, that is a total of at least 1,310 packages of heroin “no longer on the street,” a news release from the police department reads.

Police initially stopped the U-Haul after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign on McKinley Street. In addition to the drugs, police found approximately $1,300 in cash, various drug paraphernalia and a digital scale.

Jamie E. Bombard, 25, of Bloomingdale, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor; failure to stop at a stop sign, a traffic infraction; and driving without wearing a seat belt, an infraction. Hillary J. Porter, 47, of Plattsburgh, was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors. Emma C. Hanrahan, 33, of Glens Falls, was charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Bombard was remanded to Essex County Jail without bail, the other two women were issued appearance tickets for the Lake Placid Village Court.

“The Lake Placid Police Department appreciates the continued support of the community and that of our partner law enforcement agencies in our efforts to keep these dangerous drugs out of our community,” a news release from the department reads.
