LAKE PLACID — After hosting a men’s International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Ski Jumping World Cup for the first time in 32 years back in February, it looks like Lake Placid is set to host another next year.

According to the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup 2023-24 calendar and Instagram page, this village is slated to host the World Cup competition from Feb. 10 to 11, 2024. Locally, state Olympic Regional Development Authority Director of Communications Darcy Norfolk said Monday that ORDA is still waiting on confirmation but is “moving in that direction.”

With 20 total stops on the World Cup tour, Lake Placid would be the only one in North America.

The event would feature two men’s individual competitions and a Super Team event on the 128-meter hill — the big jump (the smaller one is the 100-meter hill). A women’s competition was not on the schedule.

This past February, Lake Placid’s Ski Jumping World Cup saw more than 7,000 people in attendance at the Olympic Jumping Complex, the site of 1980 Winter Olympic jumping. Most of those attendees were Polish-Americans who had traveled from places such as Connecticut, Chicago and even as far as Las Vegas. Prior to that, the last time this village hosted FIS Ski Jumping World Cup had been in December 1990.
