SARANAC LAKE — To accommodate the growing number of attendees, the venue for the launch of “Wild Words: Adirondack Teen Writing Anthology” has been moved to the Harrietstown Town Hall.
Given the increased space, this event is free and open to the public — all are welcome. Previously, this event was scheduled to take place at the Pendragon Theater, and briefly it was marked as sold out, according to the Adirondack Center for Writing, which is hosting the event.
Seventy teen writers from around the Adirondacks will see their creative work published in the first “Wild Words Adirondack Teen Writing Anthology” this spring.
The anthology will launch on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at Harrietstown Town Hall at 39 Main St., Saranac Lake.
The event is free and open to the public, and will feature readings by some of the 2023 contributors. Attendees will be able to pick up a copy of the book for free.
Submissions for the anthology came from over 40 different towns in and around the North Country.
The 70 selected contributors range from 13-19 years old, and have written a variety of different genres, including poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, book excerpts, plays and more.
Featured readers will include a table read by playwright J.R. Lynch (Chazy), poetry by Bingo Valentin (Saranac Lake) and Zarela Gulli (Keene Valley), and writing by Lexi Coffin (Lake Placid), Jocelyn Bessette (Peru) and Danielle McCaffrey (Brushton), among others.
For teens whose work was selected for the anthology, there is still time to RSVP and read at the book launch event.
The “Wild Words: Adirondack Teen Writing Anthology” is a collaboration between visiting writer Erin Dorney and the Adirondack Center for Writing as part of the Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Program. CRNY, a project of the Tides Center, is a three-year, $125 million investment in the financial stability of New York state artists and the organizations that employ them.
