Lake Placid business owner plans boat rental service
LAKE PLACID — The owner of a local real estate agency has applied for authorization to operate a new boat rental business on Mirror Lake.
Peter Day, owner of Martha Day Realty, has submitted an application to the town-village Joint Review Board seeking authorization to operate a boat rental business behind the Martha Day Realty storefront on the north end of Main Street.
Day owns the 2411 Main St. property where the storefront is located, as well as the land behind it, which has an existing boathouse and dock on Mirror Lake.
Day told the Joint Review Board at its meeting this past Wednesday that he isn’t planning on building any new structures, nor any new lighting, but he plans to install a new bathroom in the basement of his building for customers of the boat rental business.
The business — Downstairs Boat Rental — will be run by three kids between the ages of 12 and 17, he said. The business would offer canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, rowboats and paddleboats for rent, according to the project application. The proposed hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Day is also asking for permission to put up two signs for the boat rental business on the Martha Day Realty storefront. Both signs would be blue with white lettering with a lake view in the background, a similar design to existing signs on the storefront.
The business would be located next door to Mirror Lake Boat Rental.
A public hearing on Day’s project is slated Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. Those interested in attending can do so virtually by visiting https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/646460085.
