SARANAC LAKE — Students attending Petrova Elementary School are going remote Friday after a member of the school community tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday afternoon.

Students are expected to return to class Tuesday, after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, according to Saranac Lake Central School District Superintendent Diane Fox.

Fox made the announcement in a robocall to parents Thursday, opening with, “Good afternoon. Unfortunately, it’s me again.”

She said the kindergarten through sixth-grade students at Petrova in Saranac Lake will remain remote through the weekend, with plans to return them to their regular hybrid learning schedule on Tuesday.

Students at Bloomingdale Elementary School will continue their usual schedule, and busing for students at St. Bernard’s School will remain on its regular schedule, Fox said.

Students in grades 7 to 12 went remote Thursday after a member of that school community tested positive. They are also expected to return to class in person Tuesday.

Fox did not say whether the people who tested positive were students, teachers of other staff.

“We knew that following the holidays there would be an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country, and that our little neck of the woods would not be immune,” Fox said. “We are doing our best to navigate during this difficult period in order to provide as much in-person instruction as possible.”

Starting at $4.75/week.
