SARANAC LAKE — Harrietstown town Councilwoman Jordanna Mallach will be honored by Assemblyman Billy Jones at the Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony Saturday.

Mallach and five other women will be honored.

Jones began the Woman of Distinction award two years ago to honor women who who have made an impact in fields such as education, health care, volunteerism, military service and community service.

“Women across our region work tirelessly to make it a better place for all. They’re strong leaders and inspirational change-makers, and during Women’s History Month, they deserve to be recognized,” Jones said. “The 2018 Women of Distinction Awards gives us the chance to come together and celebrate these incredible women in our community.”

“The field of nominees was extremely impressive, which made the selection very difficult,” Jones wrote in an email. “Each of the over 140 nominations my office received contained excellent details on what their nominee has meant to their respective communities.”

The six 2018 Women of Distinction recipients, by category, are:

-Military Service: Jordanna Mallach

-Education: Eileen Kilcullen

-Health Care: Ann Charette

-Community Service: Jane Sample

-Business: Susan Matton

-Volunteerism: Maxine Perry

Jones wrote: “Jordanna has served our country both foreign and domestically, is currently the Special Programs Coordinator, for the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs, and she is involved in her community as an active Rotarian, member of the local Homeward Bound Adirondacks, and several other organizations.î”

Mallach moved to Lake Placid from the Albany area in 2006, then to Saranac Lake in 2013. She was elected to Harrietstown town board last November. She is a member of the Saranac Lake Rotary Club and serves on the village Parks and Trails Advisory Board.

“I think anyone who works in public service doesn’t do it for recognition,” Mallach said. “I was really surprised by this.”

Mallach said a co-worker had asked her some time ago if she minded being nominated.

“I said yes and didn’t think much about it,” she said. “He wrote up a letter and was contacted by Assemblyman Jones, asking for my resume and more documentation. That was a very big deal, that my co-worker would take the time to collect the documents. It makes me feel good to know my co-workers value my work.”î

The ceremony will take place Saturday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Stafford Science & Technology Building Theatre at Clinton Community College.

Starting at $4.75/week.
