SARANAC LAKE– Women’s College Scholarship Club members — the ladies in the blue aprons — were busy this past fall and holiday season raising funds to award scholarships to local students.

In November, club members held their annual lunch service, bake sale and holiday raffle at the North Country Community College Craft Fair. This endeavor is not only one of the club’s biggest fundraisers but also an opportunity to participate in a community event.

December’s Sparkle Village saw Women’s College Scholarship Club members continue their holiday raffle, worth over $800 with 20 gift certificates donated by local merchants. In the spirit of the holiday season, club members handed out candy bags to community supporters.

The winning raffle ticket was drawn by Chamber of Commerce membership and engagement coordinator Tori Vazquez. The lucky winner was Katie Stoddard, mother of two children in the local school system.

All funds raised in 2024 will be awarded as scholarships to students, both male and female, in June. Scholarships go to graduating high school seniors residing in the Saranac Lake School district and to continuing education scholars residing in Essex or Franklin counites. Recipients may apply their scholarships toward traditional college programs, trade school, technical or online education.
