Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A Yonkers man has been arrested in an assault on a woman with three children who asked for a cab ride to Queens.

The 26-year-old woman said she got into the man's car in upper Manhattan Sunday after he said he was a cab driver.

Police say the man drove the woman and her children to a shelter in Queens and tried to sexually assault her.

While the woman was trying to escape, the man elbowed her 5-year-old in the head. He forcibly removed her 3-year-old from the vehicle. She also had a 1-year-old with her.

The children were treated for minor injuries.

Forty-eight-year-old Pedro Vargas of Yonkers was arrested Friday on charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
