August 18, 2014
Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department says officers shot and wounded a man with a knife who was attacking a woman in a Bronx building.

Authorities say the officers responded to a 911 call on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx just before 4 a.m. Sunday and saw 34-year-old Juan Rosario enter the lobby and attack the 32-year-old woman.

Police say the officers ordered the man to drop the knife, and that he refused. The officers each fired one time.

Rosario was hit in the chest, and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The woman, who police say is related to the suspect, was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

A knife was recovered at the scene. Rosario was arrested on attempted murder, felony assault and other charges. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
