Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department says officers shot and wounded a man with a knife who was attacking a woman in a Bronx building.

Authorities say the officers responded to a 911 call at 2471 Sedgwick Ave. in the Bronx just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

The officers saw a 34-year-old man enter the lobby from the stairs and attack the 32-year-old woman.

The NYPD says the officers ordered the man to drop the knife, and that he refused. The officers each fired one time. The man was hit in the chest, and taken to the hospital in stable condition. The woman was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities say a knife was recovered at the scene. Charges are pending.
