PALATINE BRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) — A 73-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after police say he tried to suffocate a patient he was visiting at an upstate New York nursing home.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office tells The Daily Gazette of Schenectady (http://bit.ly/1pmFeIv ) that Edgar Morey of Fonda was visiting a patient at the Palatine Nursing Home in Palatine Bridge Saturday night when he used a pillow to try to suffocate the person.

Authorities said the victim was treated for injuries and remains in stable condition. Police aren't saying whether Morey is related to the person or divulging a possible motive for the incident.

He's being held in the county jail on $50,000 bail.

It couldn't be determined if Morey has a lawyer.

Palatine Bridge is a village on the Mohawk River 45 miles northwest of Albany.
