SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake Central School District board of education authorized the establishment of the 2014-15 tax levy at a special meeting Thursday.
The total tax levy stayed at $19,877,199. The school district's portion was $19,728,735. That's the same amount the board had previously said it would be. The tax levy is up 1.84 percent from the last school year. The resolution appropriated $148,464 to the Saranac Lake Free Library.
The board also cast a vote for a member of the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Board of Cooperative Educational Services. They nominated Jules J. Comeau of Long Lake.

It was the first meeting for the newest member of the board, Dennis Dwyer Sr., who was recently appointed to the board. He said he thinks he will enjoy the position.
"Just looking around, they're people I can work together with very well," Dwyer said of the board..
School board President Clyde Baker discussed the grant writing committee, which is in the process of being created this year and has yet to assemble.
"I've reached out to the New York State School Boards Association. They have a clearing house of grants for us to look at and a contact person to help us get rolling on this stuff," Baker said. "Once we get that information, we will probably try to drag in people from the public to help us out on a volunteer basis to see what we can get."
Baker said once the grant writing committee is set up, the group will then begin to search for grant ideas.
"What we will do is brainstorm ideas and where we want to go," Baker said. "Once we find out from NYSBA what grants are out there."
