Rachel Howard, a groom from Wayward Farm, washes an ornery horse named Hobbes on Monday afternoon at the North Elba Horse Show Grounds in Lake Placid. Hobbes is one of around 1,000 horses stabled there during the three weeks of horse shows, which begin today with the Lake Placid Horse Show.
