To the editor:
From a Saranac Lake High School graduate: Is it still the SLHS Redskins?
With so many important challenges within our great USA, please try to explain to members of your Congress that their constituents are watching their every move and that November 2014 is coming. We have had enough of their superfluous busy statements, uncontrollable spending, and Gore bull worming.
Change Redskin name?
I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward with tongue in cheek.
Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.
More name changes:
-The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant blacks from the '60s alive.
-The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives. WRONG! The UNLV Rebels. North and South can now be equally upset.
-I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion: New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres.
-Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged: Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Pirates!
Now, let's address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children:
-The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible spending habits.
-The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a childhood epidemic.
-The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates.
-The Milwaukee Brewers? That goes without saying.
With all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to placate PETA and not emphasize the overbite of Oregon State women's athletic teams, using some other name than "Animal Lumber Jacks."
So, we must support any legislation to rectify this travesty. The government will become involved with this issue, as they should not.
In my opinion
Facts and logic are just the kind of things that most of the crying, spineless, malted-milk, blowhard, do-nothing pawns of our "CHAOS IS CASH" Congress and our present administration love to ignore in order to justify their own incompetence. The only time most in our Congress and our present administration open their collective mouth is to change feet.
If many CONgressMEN were merely stupid, the laws of probability would dictate that at least some of their decisions would serve America's interests.
Thank you for your time.
