SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake High School will host a spring concert at 7 p..m. Wednesday in the high school auditorium.
The program will feature each of the high-quality musical ensembles represented at the high school in a varied and challenging repertoire.
The Festival Chorus will open the program, presenting pieces by composers ranging from Mozart to Copland followed by the Jazz Ensemble, which will present pieces from many of the main jazz genres from swing to Latin. The select Men's and Women's Ensembles will perform a combined a cappella arrangement of the Mumford and Son's piece "Below My Feet" after singing gender-separate pieces (Women will do a beautiful setting of Yeats' poem "The Lake Isle of Innisfree" and the men will inspire high wages with the Kirby Shaw arrangement of "The Auctioneer.") Concert Choir will perform the earliest known example of a rota, or round, among pieces by Randall Thompson, William Dawson, J.S. Bach, and a Nigerian folk song including traditional percussion and movement. The Concert Band will conclude the program with a variety of pieces from the traditional strains of Grainger to the more austere and modern sororities of "Tempered Steel" featuring the percussion section.
The concert is free and open to the public and will include the raffle drawing for the paddleboard sponsored by the High School Parent Faculty Organization.
