To the editor:
More than 80 people representing area businesses, municipalities and community organizations joined Adirondack Foundation and the North Country Business Council at Heaven Hill Farm on May 6 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the community foundation movement in America.
We were pleased to give away five door prizes for people to use on our crowdfunding website, www.adirondackgives.org, and to announce the Generous Acts Fund, our brand-new grant-making fund that anyone can give to with the confidence that it will be used for current and future Adirondack community needs. We thank each and every one of you who shared the evening with us.
We extend special thanks to the following people, organizations and businesses for helping make the event a resounding success: Kayte Billerman, owner of The Good Bite Kitchen, for her wonderful catering; Kerry Shannon of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism for helping with registration; and Jody Parks of the North Country Chamber of Commerce for her help organizing Business After Hours.
Now 17 years old, Adirondack Foundation manages more than $38 million in assets and awards about $2 million in grants annually to support Adirondack communities. But we don't do it alone - it's through our relationships with local donors, community leaders, business owners and volunteers that we are able to harness the power of philanthropy to make a difference in our region.
