LAKE PLACID - Emily Barney came through with the game-winning RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday to lead the Lake Placid softball team to a 3-2 victory over Northern Adirondack in the Section VII, Class C semifinals.
Barney's single brought in Liz Bimonte as the Blue Bombers notched their second walk-off victory in a row. Lake Placid won in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday when Alexis Megliore drove in Hanna Potter to beat Plattsburgh 7-6.
With Thursday's win, the Blue Bombers advance to the Section VII, Class C championship game Wednesday against top-seeded Ticonderoga.
Northern Adirondack scored in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Lake Placid responded with a run in the third inning. Both teams scored a run in the fifth to set the stage for the seventh-inning heroics.
Carissa Kennedy earned the win from the pitcher's circle. The junior struck out seven and walked one over seven innings of work.
Payton Barney, Emily Barney, Taylor Maiorca and Megliore each had two singles as the Blue Bombers collected 11 hits as a team. Kennedy and Cheyenne Blair each doubled.
Alexis Boulrice and Taylor Durnin both doubled for Northern Adirondack, which finished its season 0-12.
Lake Placid will bring a 9-6 overall record into Wednesday's championship game against Ticonderoga.
AuSable Valley 19, Saranac Lake 4
CLINTONVILLE - The Saranac Lake softball season came to an end Thursday with a 19-4 loss to AuSable Valley in the Section VII, Class B semifinals.
The Patriots jumped all over the Red Storm early, taking a 9-2 lead after three innings.
Saranac Lake senior Brittany Woodruff accounted for two of her team's six hits with a single and a double.
Madison Rondeau kept the Red Storm offense at bay by striking out 13 to earn the pitching win for AuSable Valley. Miranda Sheffer had three hits for AuSable Valley.
