The brains and driving force behind Daffest, Saranac Lake's big spring event, is Cherrie Sayles. Her enthusiasm is much like the word she uses a lot - "awesome."
Knowing all the people in the community, she pollinates all whom she recruits with the excitement of Daffest that will leave her voice ringing in your ears.
Incredible and unique events are planned for this weekend and next, by sponsors and community groups that pour their heart and soul into offering an enriching experience for all.

Daffest starts tonight with the Kickoff Party at the Blue Moon, then the "Try Mine" pastry contest with a performance by the Tupper Lake Ecumenical Choir and ending with a Latin Dance Party. The fun happens next week, too.
Saturday, however, is the biggest event, the Daffest Derby on the LaPan Highway hill, where you will see expressions of fear and fun in the kids' and adults' eyes as they race down and try not to crash into the hay bales.
Make sure to plan on eating at the Festival of Blooms going on all day at the Riverside Park with fair food from root beer floats to barbecued pork. Stick around for the baking demonstrations and baked goods sale by Paul Smith's College students while enjoying music by the Blue Steel Band. After a full belly, you might want to relax aboard Adirondack Scenic Boat Tours, leaving hourly, or go on a walking tour of Bartok Cabin. All this is going on at the Riverside Park area.
The best end-of-the-day event, with the exception of the awards ceremony, is the pie-eating contest. To all those who have been training for this (you know who you are), we wish you the best of luck.
So you can see why so many people are excited to get out and celebrate Daffest, with its events for all interests. For a complete schedule, check out the Enterprise calendar online or on page 5, or go to www.daffest.com.
The goal of Daffest is to cover the Saranac Lake area with a million bulbs, similar to Tulip Festivals in Ottawa and Albany. So with all the exciting events going on for Daffest, don't forget to buy your bulbs. Go to www.daffest.com, and buy plenty for outside your home or business, or even donate them to neighbors or the Village Improvement Society's community gardens.
If we all do our part, we can make Saranac Lake look - wait for it ... did you just hear Cherrie across town? Yep - "AWESOME!"
