To the editor:
I would like to say "go raibh maith agaibh" (thank you in Gaelic) to the Women's Civic Chamber for bestowing on me the title of queen of the Saranac Lake 2014 Winter Carnival. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would ever have that honor.
From the moment that I walked down the aisle in the town hall until the end of the Sunday night fireworks, the days during the Carnival were some of the never-to-be-forgotten days of my life. It was so much fun, and I enjoyed every minute of it, including being alongside King Jeff, Princess Brie and Prince Jacob who kept things humming right along.
We are so fortunate to have so many energetic residents ready to work hard to make this year's Winter Carnival happen. The Ice Palace was outstanding this year, with its lights and Celtic splendor! Despite the extremely cold temperatures, all the volunteers worked hard to build and light the palace that showcased the beautiful dragon inside and other ice carvings outside.
There are not many small villages like ours that can offer so much fun and excitement for 10 days. The hometown parade and Rotary Show can never be beaten. I can't imagine how many hundreds of people were watching and clapping along the parade route. With so much sadness in the world, it was a joy to see so many people laughing and having a good time all week. Thank you also for the Winter Carnival Royalty Reception at the Waterhole and the Grand Marshal Reception and Royalty Dinner at the Red Fox Restaurant. We certainly had a full 10 days of celebration. I'd like to end this letter with an old Gaelic blessing:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
Your reigning queen,
