ALBANY (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo says New York state has more than 2,000 vehicles and 4,000 workers available to handle the latest winter storm to hit the region.
The governor says the state has 1,789 snow plows, 359 loaders and nearly 4,200 operators on duty today, along with almost 300,000 tons of road salt on hand statewide.
Cuomo says all Thruway and state Department of Transportation maintenance headquarters will be fully staffed around the clock for the duration of the storm.
The governor ordered the activation of the State Emergency Operation Center to monitor the storm, while the Public Service Commission is monitoring the efforts of utilities throughout New York during the storm and restoration period.
State troopers usually assigned to traffic accident details and commercial vehicle inspections have been reassigned to patrol duties for the storm.
