TUPPER LAKE - The Tupper Lake boys hockey team struggled in the third period Monday night in a 7-4 loss to Saranac at the Civic Center.

Heading into the third, the score was tied at 4, but Saranac went on to score the next three goals to take control of the game.

The Chiefs got going early in the third when Kevin Fisher scored just about three minutes into the period. Alex Zurlo picked up an assist on the play.

Saranac then tacked on two more goals. One from Tristan Archambault, with assists from Jacob Lilledahl and Kyle Murphy, and another from Alex Fisher, assisted by Collin Recore and Danny Bridgeman.

Archambault had two goals and an assist in the game.

"We didn't have a lot of chances in the third," Lumberjacks coach Dan Cook said. "They outplayed us in the third. Probably 90 percent of the puck possession was in our zone. We didn't get a whole lot of anything."

Tupper Lake fell to 0-18-1 with the loss. Saranac improved to 3-14-1.

The Lumberjacks may have struggled in the third, but toward the end of the second period they appeared to have all the momentum.

Down 4-2, the Lumberjacks picked up goals from Hudson Sparks and Matt Corrow to even the score. Sparks nailed the puck to send it past goalie Jeff Smith on the first one with 4:38 left in the period, while Corrow scored on a power play with 35 seconds reamining in the period. Broyce Guerette and Sparks picked up assists on Corrow's goal.

The goals energized the lively crowd, seemingly giving the home team lots of energy on the ice.

"We got some momentum off of the third goal that we scored," Cook said. "We really got some momentum. That kind of led into the fourth goal. We were so up and down but we fed off that momentum. It was good. It was kind of tough for us to see the second period come to an end because we had so much momentum going."

Gabe Burns and Elliot Fletcher also had goals for Tupper Lake. Kris Crouse had an assist on Burns' goal.

Zurlo, Kellen Louis, Dylan Baker scored goals for Saranac.

It was the final regular season and home game for four Tupper Lake seniors: Corrow, Guerette, Sparks and Crouse, who all contributed points in the game.

"They've been great," Cook said. "We didn't have Corrow or Crouse last year. They didn't play. They came back as seniors and helped us out quite a bit. Hudson's been here four years. He's been a solid player for us. He plays center very well. He does his job every shift. He's one of the role models we have for the young kids. Broyce has been here five years. He has over 60 points now in five years. He's really been our go-to guy for five years. They're all going to be tough to replace in their own way."

Tupper Lake will travel to Ogdensburg on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. playoff game.
