SARANAC LAKE - Saranac Lake ski jumper Peter Frenette will be going to his second Winter Olympics.

The 21-year-old was nominated Wednesday to the U.S. Olympic Team that will compete next month in the Sochi, Russia games.

"It's really exciting," Frenette, who just returned home for a short pre-Olympic break, told the Enterprise. "My jumping is starting to come around, just in time. I think it will be a good Olympics. I was confident I was going to make the team, but I knew it wasn't going to be easy because we've all been jumping well."

Frenette has been ski jumping since he was 6 years old. He went to his first Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver at age 17.

"That year, I really kind of figured it out, and it gave me a lot of confidence," he said. "Since then, my jumps have gotten better every year."

Frenette will be joined on the men's Olympic ski jumping team by Nick Fairall of Andover, N.H., Nick Alexander of Lebanon, N.H., who also attended Lake Placid's National Sports Academy, and Anders Johnson, a Plattsburgh native who lived in Lake Placid for a time and currently resides in Park City, Utah.

Frenette said he'll be in Saranac Lake the next few days to relax and spend some time with family. On Sunday he'll travel to Whistler, British Columbia for a week-long training camp. On Feb. 1, Frenette will fly to Munich, Germany for team processing before traveling to Sochi.

The first-ever women's U.S. Olympic ski jumping team was also named Wednesday. It includes three Park City residents: Sarah Hendrickson, Jessica Jerome and Lindsey Van, who lived and trained in Lake Placid for several years while attending NSA.

Nina Lussi, 19, of Lake Placid, who was among a group of three other women vying for a spot on the team, didn't get a nomination.
