KEUKA LAKE - Freshman Katie Stuart of Tupper?Lake posted back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts for the Storm's women's basketball team to earn Keuka's Female Athlete of the Week.
Stuart, a guard/forward, totaled 24 points with 12 rebounds in leading the Storm (4-5, 4-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 1-1 week.
Stuart scored a career-high 14 points while shooting 55.5 percent (5 of 9) with six rebounds and 2 assists in a recent 90-75 home setback to Rochester Institute of Technology.
Trailing 18-17, Stuart fueled the Green and Gold on a 13-1 run. Stuart made a pair of putback layups and also converted a three-point play and senior Danielle Gravel buried a pair of "3s" during the spurt as the Storm led 30-19 with 6:31 remaining.
The game was tied at 58 before Stuart knocked down a jumper for a 60-58 lead with 10:16 remaining, but that would be Keuka's last lead of the game.
Making her second career start, Stuart added 10 points, 6 rebounds and a team-most 3 assists in Saturday's 55-52 road win over Gallaudet.
Stuart shot 45.4 percent from the floor (5 of 11) and poured in eight second-half points on 4 of 6 shooting as the Green and Gold gave the Bison (6-6, 3-1 NEAC) its first conference loss of the season.
Keuka took a 29-25 halftime lead, but after Gallaudet pulled within 31-30, the Green and Gold went on an 8-0 run, fueled by a layup from senior Casey Chamberlain (Perry NY/Perry), jumpers from Stuart and junior Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) and a pair of free throws from senior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor).
Keuka withstood a late rally to pick up its fourth NEAC win in five tries.
Stuart is averaging 8.1 ppg. and 4.4 rpg. on the year.
