Local man faces aggravated DWI charge

RAY BROOK - A Saranac Lake man was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated here early Sunday morning.

Ray Brook-based state police said they tried to pull over a 2001 Honda Civic driven by Omega Bickford, 35, around 1:25 a.m. on Old Ray Brook Road, but Bickford didn't stop after troopers turned on their emergency lights. Police say the he accelerated, driving in the opposite lane, then turned into a driveway. Bickford allegedly tried to turn around in the driveway but was blocked by a police cruiser.

Bickford's blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.19 percent, police said.

He was charged with aggravated DWI, failure to keep right, failure to signal for a turn and failure to comply with a lawful order. Bickford was processed and released to appear in town of North Elba court at 7 p.m. Jan. 27.
