LAKE PLACID - Scott Monroe is stepping down as the town of North Elba's animal control officer, and his assistant will step up and take his place.
Town Supervisor Roby Politi said at Tuesday's town board meeting that Monroe wrote an email to town officials saying he didn't plan to renew his contract with the town after a year-and-a-half of serving in that position, and thanking the town for the opportunity. Politi noted that since Monroe was elected to the village board, he has been getting busier.
Monroe told the town board his assistant, Jeremy Mihill, was interested in taking over the full-time contract on Jan. 1, subject to the same terms and conditions Monroe was. The town board approved the change unanimously.
"He sounds very interested and ambitious," Politi said.
Monroe will act as a substitute when Mihill is unable to perform his duties, Politi said.
Town Clerk Laurie Dudley said people normally call dispatch to get the animal control officer.
"People won't know the difference," Dudley said.
