Saranac Lake accepts bid for Lake Flower beach study

SARANAC LAKE - The village Board of Trustees has green-lighted a feasibility study for returning the village beach to Lake Flower.

Trustees agreed Monday to give village Manager John Sweeney approval to sign a contract with the LA Group, one of three companies that submitted proposals to the village. The company will be paid $10,000 to conduct the study.

The resolution the board approved says the proposal submitted by the LA Group "will provide the basic information required for an evaluation of having a beach on Lake Flower including but not limited to an evaluaton of parking, conceptual design and cost benefit analysis for the lowest proposed cost."

The village has committed $5,000 to the study to complement another $5,000 raised by a group of volunteers who want the beach moved back to Lake Flower from Lake Colby.

This was the second request for proposals the village issued on the beach study. An earlier version, distributed this past summer, received no responses. Village officials said it may have been too broad in scope. The request was rewritten and sent out again this fall.
