To the editor:
The recent article printed in the Enterprise on Cape Air being the "lone bidder" for our region communicates a great success, but one option is still in need of public support regarding adding air service to Westchester County with continuing (included) coach service to Midtown Manhattan.
Cape Air currently operates regularly scheduled service to Boston. Its federal subsidies are up for renewal, and it is proposed that the currently subsidized routes be expanded by one so that Westchester County Airport could have two flights a day in each direction, one of which would be subsidized, the other paid for by the carrier.
Public input counts equally in the U.S. Department of Transportation's decision-making process, so if you would appreciate such a service, please add your voice to those who have already asked the federal DOT to consider Harrietstown's request for such an expansion. This is a win-win proposition that goes hand in hand with all of the region's recent development announcements.
There is a website set up to communicate your support here: www.colby-foundation.org/Yes!.htm
If anyone would like to submit a formal letter of support, please address it to Bob Bevilacqua, Harrietstown Supervisor, 39 Main St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
