Johnny Charles at Delta Blue this weekend

LAKE PLACID - Blues Leaf Recording Artist Johnny Charles will take the stage from 9 p.m. Delta Blue, Friday and Saturday.

Charles is an East Coast blues guitarist who explores all realms of the blues. Performing for more than 35 years, Charles was influenced by such greats as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Kenny Burrel, Roy Buchanan, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Albert King.

Charles' musical style ranges from traditional blues to blues rock, blues rockabilly, and soulful jazzy blues.

Based out of central New Jersey, Charles has performed at hundreds of venues over the years on the east coast from Nashville to Boston.

He has played at the Count Basie Theater, The Stone Pony, and the Stanhope House in New Jersey, B.B. Kings in New York City, and at the New Daisy Theater in Memphis. He has played for crowds at multiple regional festivals including Musikfest, Mayfair, Riverfest in Pennsylvania, and Guitarbeque in New Jersey.

In 1995, Charles won the regional W.C. Handy Award for best blues guitar in the Metropolitan New York City area. Most recently he was inducted as a Great Blues Artist of New Jersey by the National Heritage Foundation's Blues Hall of Fame. Johnny has shared the bill with B.B. King, Jimmie Vaughan, Ronnie Earl, Roy Buchanan, John Copeland, Hubert Sumlin, Dr. John, and Roomful of Blues. Accompanying Mr. Charles for their Lake Placid engagement at Delta Blue are Eryn Shewell, vocals, Steve Decker on drums, and Scott Hornick on bass.
