The Northwood girls hockey team faced league rival Stanstead College last weekend for their first matchup of the season.
The Huskies scored two goals in the third period to wrap up a 3-1 victory in a game played at Norwich University.
Rachel Lustenring scored the Huskies first goal in the opening period to give her team a 1-0 advantage. Northwood was able to maintain that lead until the third period when Stanstead tied it up at 1-1.
Cailey Hutchison regained the lead for the Huskies less than a minute later and Bridgit Sullivan netted her first goal as a Husky to put the game out of reach.
Lindsay Powers made seven saves in the first period and Katey Snyder finished the game in goal for the Huskies.
With the victory, Northwood improved to 9-1-1 on the season. The Huskies will play their first home games of the season this weekend against Rice.
The Northwood Junior boys hockey team lost to the Minnesota White All Star team 2-1 in the championship game of the CCM International Invitational in New Hope, Minn.
The Huskies beat perennial powerhouse Shattuck St. Mary's 4-2 in the opener, then downed Hill Academy of Toronto 3-2 in double overtime to earn a spot in the title game.
Northwood's Aidan Pelino was named to the all-tournament team as a goaltender. The Huskies now have a 6-2 record.
