Red Storm girls soccer season ends in quarters

PLATTSBURGH - The Saranac Lake girls soccer season came to an end Wednesday as Plattsburgh handed the Red Storm a 2-0 defeat in the Section VII, Class B quarterfinals.

Led by goalkeeper Sheila Decker, Saranac Lake was able to keep the Hornets off the scoreboard throughout the first half.

Hailey McLaughlin scored the game's first goal just after halftime on a penalty kick. Brooke Knight netted an insurance goal in the 18th minute on a feed from McLaughlin.

Plattsburgh outshot the Red Storm 17-4 in the game. Decker was credited with 10 saves.

Saranac Lake came into the game as the No. 6 seed in the sectional tournament. Plattsburgh is No. 3.

Northeastern Clinton 3, Saranac Lake 0

CHAMPLAIN - The Northeastern Clinton volleyball team overpowered Saranac Lake 25-11, 25-13, 25-19 on Wednesday.

Brittany Woodruff led the Red Storm defensively with seven digs and one kill. Ellen Miner racked up three aces, two assists, two digs and two kills.

Amanda Tallon paced the Cougars with 23 service points and 12 assists. Teammate Ashley McCoy added six kills.
