Red Storm, Bombers drop volleyball matches

SARANAC LAKE - The Beekmantown volleyball team came out strong and kept it going Thursday on the way to a 25-4, 25-8, 25-11 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Saranac Lake.

Senior Samantha Martin had a standout match defensively for the Red Storm with six digs, one block and one ace. Freshman Olivia Atkinson chipped in two digs and one kill, while senior Brittany Woodruff had three digs and Ellen Miner collected two blocks and one dig.

Shannon Ryan led the way for Beekmantown with 14 kills and four aces. Michaela Lafountain racked up 33 assists.

Saranac 3, Lake Placid 0

SARANAC - The Lake Placid volleyball team suffered narrow losses in the first two games and never recovered Thursday as Saranac captured a 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory.

Ally Wallace racked up three aces and two kills and Kiana Fell had four kills and one dig to lead the Blue Bombers. Taylor Maiorca chipped in three service points and three kills, while Brenna Garrett had five assists and five points.

Cassie Smith had a big night from the serving line with 13 points to go along with her five kills to pace the Chiefs. Teammate Anna Dorrance had nine assists.
