Bombers prep for NAC with victory

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid boys soccer team has some momentum going into tonight's final regular season game against Northern Adirondack.

The Blue Bombers used three first-half goals Tuesday to down Willsboro. The 3-0 win came in the wake of a 3-1 victory over Westport on Friday and a 1-1 tie against Chazy, the state's No. 1 ranked Class D team at the time, last Wednesday.

Lake Placid rounds out its regular season schedule tonight at home against Northern Adirondack at 4:30 p.m. The game is a make-up of a match that was rained out last Monday.

The Blue Bombers offense came on strong in the first half Tuesday. Ryan Damp gave Lake Placid a 1-0 advantage in the 16th minute after taking a pass from Andrew Meister.

Nzoni Thompson kept it going with a goal at the 22:42 mark and Chris Williams boosted the lead to 3-0 with a score at 28:33. Williams assisted on Thompson's goal and Stuart Baird was credited with the assist on Williams' goal.

Lake Placid outshot Willsboro 22-6 throughout the game. Chris Kordziel recorded the shutout in net for the Blue Bombers.

Lake Placid is 7-2-2 overall.

Plattsburgh 1, Saranac Lake 0

PLATTSBURGH - The Plattsburgh boys soccer team edged Saranac Lake for the second time this season Tuesday with a 1-0 Northern Soccer League Division I victory.

The Hornets controlled play in the first half, limiting Saranac Lake to no shots on goal. Plattsburgh took advantage with the only goal of the game at the 31:18 mark of the first half. Yanis Yahiaoui was credited with the score.

The Red Storm battled back in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. Plattsburgh finished with an 8-3 advantage in shots.

Oliver Holmes registered seven saves for the Red Storm, who fell to 8-4 in league games.

Plattsburgh is 8-4 in NSL matches.

The Hornets dealt Saranac Lake a 2-1 defeat on Sept. 24.

GIRLS SOCCER

Chateaugay 4, Tupper Lake 0

CHATEAUGAY - The Chateaugay girls soccer team kept its unbeaten record intact Tuesday with a 4-0 Northern Athletic Conference victory over Tupper Lake.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-0-1 overall, 11-0 NAC with the win, while the Lumberjacks fell to 5-8-1 overall and 5-6-1 in conference games.

Brianna Cook scored the game's first two goals late in the first half. Both were assisted by Katie Beach.

Haylee Tower scored Chateaugay's third goal with one minute left in the first half. Beach assisted on that goal as well.

Chateaugay held a 26-1 advantage in shots. Brooke Dewyea made 16 saves in goal for the Lumberjacks.

VOLLEYBALL

Beekmantown 3, Lake Placid 0

LAKE PLACID - The Beekmantown volleyball team rolled to a 25-6, 25-11, 25-5 victory over Lake Placid on Tuesday.

Taylor Maiorca had two kills, two assists and one block and Brenna Garrett had two aces and four service points to lead the Blue Bombers.

Grace Kelly was the star of the night for Beekmantown with 23 points, nine aces, six kills and 10 digs. Kendra LaFountain chipped in 23 assists, two kills and nine digs.

AuSable Valley 3, Saranac Lake 0

CLINTONVILLE - The AuSable Valley volleyball team swept Saranac Lake on Tuesday by scores of 25-10, 25-4, 25-15.

Samantha Martin had eight digs and three service points, Crystal Plowe-Sovey had two aces, two assists and two digs and Ellen Miner had three assists, two kills and five points to lead the Red Storm.

Mirissa O'Neill sparked AuSable Valley with six kills, four digs and 10 assists.

Teammate Miranda O'Neill served 20 points and had six aces.

LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid junior Nina Armstrong ran away from the field Tuesday to capture first place in the girls race against Beekmantown and AuSable Valley.

Armstrong completed the course in 22 minutes, 8 seconds to beat out runner-up Rachel Kashorek of Beekmantown, who finished in 22:48.

Erin Skufca was the next Blue Bombers runner to cross the line, finishing fifth in 28:28.

Beekmantown swept the top five spots in the boys race, led by Colin Quakenbush, who finished in 18:25.

Karl Schulz was Lake Placid's top boys runner with a time of 19:57, which was good for seventh place. Teammate Trent White finished 10th in 20:11 and Forest Ledger was 11th in 20:19.
