SARANAC LAKE - This week's cold snap has effectively ended the growing season in much of the Adirondacks, the National Weather Service announced Tuesday.
A killing frost early Tuesday morning was the clincher. The low temperature was 25 degrees at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear, where the temperature is credited to Saranac Lake, the National Weather Service told the Enterprise. Lake Placid's low was 27, and Tupper Lake's was 29.
"Looking at past data, this is well within the climatological normal range of the first killing frost for these areas," the Weather Service said.
