Paul Smith's women improve to 3-0

PAUL SMITHS - Nicole Landry scored three goals in the first half to lead the Paul Smith's College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Clinton Community College on Tuesday.

The victory brings the Bobcats' record to 3-0 after they opened the season with two wins in the SUNY Canton tournament over the weekend. Paul Smith's beat SUNY Morrisville 2-0 on Saturday and downed Green Mountain College 3-1 on Sunday.

Landry took a pass from Jennifer Magude in the 12th minute of Tuesday's game to stake the Bobcats to a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, she struck again to increase the advantage.

Landry, a sophomore from Mohawk, scored her third goal just before halftime.

The Bobcats outshot Clinton 27-8.

Paul Smith's goalkeeper Asenath Brooks has had a strong start to her junior season. The Colebrook, N.H. native recorded seven saves in each of the first two games.

The Bobcats hit the road for a Yankee Small College Conference game against Vermont Tech on Saturday in Randolph, Vt. The Bobcats take on North Country Community College next Thursday at 5 p.m. in Saranac Lake.

Mattilio named runner of the week

Chloe Mattilio was named Yankee Small College Conference runner of the week after placing third in the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Invitational on Saturday.

Mattilio, a freshman from Willow Street, Pa., recorded a time of 21:09 to pace the Bobcats to a third-place team finish.

Clarkson won the team scoring with 25 points, followed by Castleton with 75 and Paul Smith's with 78.

Clarkson runners took the top two spots with Catherine Zarnofsky crossing the finish line in 20:57 and Sarah Governale placing second in 21:06.

Paul Smith's runner Ashley Evans took eighth place with a time of 22:06. Sarah Butler took 22nd in 23:54, Emelie Morton was 31st in 25:05, Lea Anthony was 33rd in 25:12 and Lauren Brieant was 34th in 25:15.
