To the editor:
Since 1980, there has been a budget line funding for services for seniors in the town of Franklin. A check for $1,200 has been issued to the Town of Franklin 55+ Club to be used for a cultural endeavor for all seniors in the club and every senior citizen in the town.
A trip to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake has been scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 25. Transportation will be provided and the visit will include a lunch at the site.
We will meet at the Franklin Town Hall at 8:30 a.m. Scheduled return time is 5:30 p.m. A 14-passenger van is available. If you care to provide your own vehicle or perhaps include a passenger, this can be arranged.
Please contact any of the following people by Aug. 12 to complete our plan.
We invite all seniors in the area to join the Town of Franklin 55+ Club. Meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month and start at 6 p.m. Bring a dish to share for dinner.
The meetings include conversation, laughs and perhaps a sing-a-long or a game. Future activities include discussion with a physical therapist to suggest simple exercises that we can do at home. In September, a representative from the New York Regional Food Bank will prepare a meal for seniors using healthy, easily available foods and will also discuss the benefits of reading the labels on packaged foods.
Plans are in progress for perhaps a train ride and dinner at a restaurant, attending a play or concert or just a nice "leisure night out".
We are exploring a program to capture and record "Senior Memories" with seniors sharing stories and history. This dialogue will be gathered by informal conversation in a group. Everybody has a "tidbit to tell others". We believe this is interesting, fun and, a valuable asset for future generations.
The club members are active, fun and "smart" and GREAT cooks! Please join us, bring your thoughts and talent, and share with everyone.
We sincerely hope to see you there.
