SARANAC LAKE - A local teenager has been arrested for allegedly threatening a 9-year-old with a utility knife.
The 18-year-old male from Bloomingdale was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and charged with second-degree menacing, second-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. His name was not released because he may be eligible for youthful offender status.
Police Chief Bruce Nason said the teen was arrested after police investigated a report of a person threatening another person with a knife in the area of Leona Lane.
Nason said the 18-year-old pointed the utility knife, which contained a razor blaze, at a 9-year-old boy while threatening him. This happened after the 9-year-old had allegedly thrown something at the 18-year-old, Nason said.
Police also said the same suspect lacerated the hand of a 15-year-old male by grabbing him while the utility knife was in his hand.
The 18-year-old was processed, arraigned in village court and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in Malone in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
