Help Saranac Lake Adult Center stay open

July 25, 2013
Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor:

I am and have been a dedicated volunteer at the Saranac Lake Adult Center since 1990. We had craft fairs, food sales, tag days, Breakfast with Santa, Winter Carnival floats, memorial celebrations and delivered meals on wheels daily. Many seniors worked with me on all the above as well as Easter, Halloween, Christmas and New Year's parties. Because of a former director (not Jennifer Grisi), most of the above functions (open to all seniors, not just a select few) were stopped, and that is the reason I quit. If we don't do something now, not later, meals on wheels will no longer be done at the center, and because of that we will lose all the kitchen equipment, as it is owned by the county. Therefore, no meals can be cooked for our local seniors who come to the center, and cooks will lose their jobs. The noon meal sometimes is the only real meal a lot of the seniors receive, as they usually live alone. The meal costs only $2 for seniors over 60.

Please write a letter supporting the Association of Senior Citizens in Franklin County and the center to our board of directors at 136 Broadway, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, and to the Association of Senior Citizens at 355 Main St., Malone, NY 12953. Encourage the center to support the association's choice of one director and only one director. Please do this as soon as possible so that the nonsense that is going on quits and we can continue as we have for years and serve our seniors.

Thank you,

Pat Thomson, volunteer
