Francis "Frank" Robinson Knight III, born in 1943, died April 9, 2013, at age 69, at Birchwood Terrace rehabilitation center in Burlington, Vt., two months after suffering a major stroke.
His younger brother Lane "Brownie" Washburn Knight died in 2005. Their father, Francis "Bob" Robinson Knight Jr., died in 1972; their mother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Knight Prellwitz, died in 1986.
Frank is survived by his companion, Kathleen Brann of Georgia, Vt.; his nephew, Timothy Hanke of Newburyport, Mass.; and three nieces: Maria Hanke of Austin, Texas, Nora Hanke of Southampton, Mass., and Jennifer Hanke of Denver, Colo.
Kathleen was a tremendous source of support to Frank during his final stay in medical facilities. "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." (Proverbs 17:22)
Frank, called "Robin" by family members, was a great talker and had a wonderful sense of humor like the rest of his family. In retirement he enjoyed his friends, motorcycles, hiking, camping and canoeing. He grew up in Rochester and Saranac Lake, where he attended high school. For many years he operated stereo stores in Plattsburgh.
A small memorial service will be held at Saranac Village at Will Rogers in Saranac Lake at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28. All who knew Frank are invited to attend and share their memories. Food will follow. (Those who wish to attend should call S. Warren Lohr at 518-891-8492 so event planners can make adequate preparations.) Afterward, a brief graveside service will be held for both brothers, whose ashes will be interred at St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal Cemetery on state Route 86 in Paul Smiths, where their parents are already at rest.
