PLATTSBURGH (AP) - Police are investigating the cause of a fast-moving fire that killed three people at a house where a family provided respite care to older residents.
State police in Plattsburgh are expected to hold a news conference Friday on the three-alarm blaze that consumed a two-story house in the town of Plattsburgh on Thursday afternoon.
Neighbors say Chris and Kathy Swiesz lived in the house with their three children and cared for boarders with special needs. The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports that members of the Swiesz family either got out of the burning home or were not there when the fire occurred, but three respite residents did not make it.
Rescuers at the scene heard popping noises they thought might be exploding oxygen bottles.
