SARANAC LAKE - A vacant waterfront lot on Lake Colby that was outside the village is now inside the village and could soon be put on the real estate market.
The village Board of Trustees approved the annexation of the 0.8-acre, village-owned lot off Moir Road, next to the village beach, at its Monday night meeting. The town of Harrietstown board had signed off on the annexation last month.
"Now that we've annexed (the) Moir Road (parcel), what is our plan with that property?" village Trustee Allie Pelletieri asked after his board's vote Monday.
Mayor Clyde Rabideau suggested the village consider selling it.
"It's a very valuable piece of real estate, worth, in my opinion, in excess of $100,000, probably more," he said. "I would like to consult with our corporation counsel and go through the avenues we have available to ourselves for selling it, one of which may be going through a Realtor, in which case we'd have to advertise for proposals for a Realtor."
Rabideau said he'd like to maximize the amount of money the village can get for the parcel.
"It won't be a $1,000 minimum bid, I can tell you that," he said. The $1,000 was a reference to the minimum bid the village has set for a series of small parcels it auctioned off in recent weeks, including a pair that were sold Wednesday.
