Independence Day celebrations

Tupper Lake Independence Day Celebration and Race Night - 5 to 10 p.m., kids sack races, bed races on the firemen's strip, live music from the 198 Army Band (6 p.m.), food vendors open (5 p.m.) and fireworks (dusk). All events at the Municipal Park, Demars Boulevard, Tupper Lake.



Saranac Lake Fourth of July events - 10 a.m.: Kiddie Parade; 10:30 a.m. (registration) Third Annual Mayor's Cup Paddle Race (race time at 11 a.m.) starting and ending in Riverside Park; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Festivities in Riverside Park, food, games, live music (Keith Kogut and Co. and The Lemmon Drops); 3 p.m.: Boat Parade. Sponsored by the Saranac Lake Women's Civic Chamber; 7 p.m. until dusk, free outdoor concert in Riverside Park, featuring Roy Hurd and Frank Orsini, and the Fireworks display will follow.



Lake Placid Fourth of July events - Parade starts next to Olympic Center at 5 p.m., makes its way down Main Street to High Peaks Resort; Set the Night to Music Fireworks Show, dusk (9:45 p.m.), over Mirror Lake. Choreographed to music, broadcast live over WSLP 93.3 FM.

The I Love BBQ and Music Festival will return to the Olympic Speedskating Oval from July 4 to 6. Look for more on this event in next week's Weekender.
