Literacy Volunteers looks for tutors in Tupper Lake

June 15, 2013

TUPPER LAKE - Literacy Volunteers will conduct a training for new tutors this month at the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library.

Volunteers must attend four three-hour training sessions. The sessions will be held in the Community Room of the library on June 18, 20, 25 and 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. The library is located at 41 Lake St. in Tupper Lake.

Literacy Volunteers' mission is to help adults improve their reading, writing, math and English-as-a-second-language skills by working one-on-one with a volunteer tutor. Students who have worked with Literacy of Northern New York have gone on to earn their GED, gotten a better job and entered post-secondary education or training programs with help from the time spent with their tutor.

If you are interested in becoming a tutor or would like to know more, call Program Coordinator Susan Tehon at 518-891-5567, email literacyef@yahoo.com, or visit the website www.lvefc.com.
