Susan Muzzy

Susan Muzzy, 62, of Keith Road, Vermontville, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Saranac Lake on June 9, 1950, she was the daughter of Patrick and Mary Ellen (Goff) Keith. She married Dennis Muzzy on Sept. 12, 1970 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale.

Susan had been employed by the New York State Department of Corrections as a head cook. She had worked at Adirondack Correctional Facility, Camp Gabriels for 28 years from the time it opened until the time it closed and 2 years at Altona until her retirement in the fall of 2012. She was a volunteer at the St. Paul's Church Food Pantry. Susan will most be remembered for the many cakes she baked for all occasions including two for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Muzzy, of Vermontville; two sons: Neil Muzzy and his wife Elizabeth of AuSable Forks and MJR Patrick B. Muzzy and his wife Sheri of Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; her mother, Mary Ellen Keith, of Vermontville; four brothers: James Keith and his wife Rita of Vermontville, Robert Keith and his wife Joannie of Vermontville, Arthur Keith of Vermontville and Paul Allen of Tupper Lake; five sisters: Kathleen Merrill and her husband Bradley of Vermontville, Elizabeth Baldwin of Yorktown, Va., Mary Jo Rohe of Vermontville, Sara Besaw and her husband George of Vermontville and Barbara Talley and her husband James of Summerville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Gloria Muzzy, of Plattsburgh.

She was preceded in death by her father, Patrick Keith.

Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday June 10 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Bill Muench officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
