Lake Placid baseball stays on winning track

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid baseball team is starting to pick up steam heading into the tail end of its regular season schedule. The Blue Bombers won their second game in a row Saturday with a 10-3 victory over Northern Adirondack.

Lake Placid got it done with offense, rapping out 14 hits to NAC's 7. Kamm Cassidy accounted for three of the Blue Bombers' hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Chris Williams went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Blue Bombers took control early with eight runs over the first four innings.

Ryan Damp earned the win on the mound after striking out seven while giving up six hits and two earned runs over six innings of work. He also chipped in a single, a double and a run scored.

Noah Mohr finished the game on the mound for Lake Placid.

Ryan Meyer and Alex Brandes each recorded a hit and scored a run for the Blue Bombers, who were coming off a 4-1 win over AuSable Valley on Thursday.

Lake Placid will bring a 6-7 record into today's game on the road at Moriah.

SOFTBALL

Lake Placid 10, Northern Adirondack 6

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid softball team is starting to make a habit of winning games with late-game heroics. The Blue Bombers did it again Friday by scoring nine runs in their final two at-bats to secure a 10-6 victory over Northern Adirondack.

Lake Placid trailed 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning then scored three runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth to lock up its fifth win in a row.

Taylor Maiorca, Lizzie Bimonte, Brooke Reid and Alexis Megliore had two hits apiece for the Blue Bombers, who had 11 hits as a team. Kelsey Taylor, Serina Hayes and Bimonte each doubled.

Hayes pitched all seven innings to earn the win in the circle.

Amanda Campbell tripled to account for one of the four Northern Adirondack hits.

Saranac Lake 23, Beekmantown 4

SARANAC LAKE - The Saranac Lake softball team posted 14 runs in the second inning to take control of what became a 23-4 five-inning rout of Beekmantown on Friday.

Nicole Viscardo went 5-for-5 with four RBI, Sydney Battistoni went 4-for-5 with three RBI and Jen McGuoirk had three hits and three RBI to lead the Red Storm offense.

Brittany Tschirhart recorded five strikeouts to earn the pitching win.

TRACK AND FIELD

OGDENSBURG - Madi Fortier captured two sprint victories, while Samantha Ormsby and Katie Zurek each won once to lead the Tupper Lake track team at the 90th annual Van Dusen Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Fortier was named outstanding female sprinter in the 15-team meet after beating the competition in the 100-meter race and the 200. She won the 100 in 13.0 seconds to beat runner-up Ellroy Roberts, who crossed the line in 13.10. Fortier when won the 200 in 26.3, far ahead of Madrid-Waddington's Taylor Lenney who clocked a 27.2

Ormsby placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 9 inches. She also placed second in the long jump with a 15-6.5.

Zurek took first place in the shot put with a 34-11.5 and was third in discus with a 95-10.

The Tupper Lake girls took fourth as a team with 55 points. Franklin Academy won the girls meet with 110 points, while the Franklin Academy boys won with 275.
