We are very close to building the kids a fun, safe, successful skateboard facility here in Saranac Lake. The SL skateboarders are our sons and daughters, our nieces and nephews, and our grandkids. By building the SL SkatePark in a central location, we will invest in our downtown and give kids a place to play as their parents and grandparents shop. Skateboarding provides a healthy activity that is fun to watch. The SkatePark will attract families to spend time downtown, which is good for restaurants and good for business. Building the SkatePark lets our kids know the community cares about them.
Nearly 16 years ago, skaters and families packed the old village board room, lobbying community leaders for a permanent skateboarding area. Those skaters have since gone on to become military service members, artists, chefs, engineers, teachers and musicians. Some have gotten married and now have kids of their own asking for a place to skate.
Fast-forward to now, with a supportive community and village board. The village has declared May 2013 as SkatePark Month, and the downtown merchants and area businesses have pulled out the stops to help with fundraising. Come out and support the SkatePark through these fun events:
