Manning paces Placid track

LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid senior Kendra Manning won three individual events and was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team Thursday as the Blue Bombers girls track and field team outpointed Peru 71-63.

The Lake Placid boys were on the losing end of their dual meet team score, falling 79-40.

Manning won all three of the sprint races, finishing the 100 in 13.5 seconds, the 200 in 29.2 and the 400 in 1:05.3. She teamed up with Lissy Ashley, Rachael Ashley and Gabby Armstrong to win the 1,600 relay in 4:38.

Nina Armstrong, Gabby Armstrong and Rachael Ashley were all three-time winners, while Lissy Ashley won twice. Nina Armstrong won the 1,500 in 5:38, the 3,000 in 12:04 and was part of the 3,200 relay team that finished in 10:48 and included Lissy Ashley, Rachael Ashley and Gabby Armstrong.

Rachael Ashley won the long jump with a 14-footer and Gabby Armstrong cleared 4 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump.

On the boys side, Nzoni Thompson won three events, while Corey Detwiler won one.

Thompson took the 400 in 56.6, the 200 in 24.7 and the long jump with a 16-5. Detwiler was the fastest runner in the 800 with a time of 2:50.

Lake Placid's Forest Ledger won the 3,000 in 12:41.

AuSable Valley 71, Saranac Lake 54

Girls

Saranac Lake 82, AuSable Valley 42

CLINTONVILLE - Blair Moody was a three-time winner, while Samantha Martin, Vanessa Salamy and Kevin Morgan each won two events Thursday as the Saranac Lake track and field team traveled to AuSable Valley High School for a dual meet.

The Red Storm girls won their meet 82-42, while the boys lost 71-54.

Moody, a sophomore, won the long jump with a 14-6 and the triple jump with a 29-6.5. She was also part of the winning 400 relay team that crossed the line in 57.1 seconds.

Martin, a junior, won the 800 in 2:42.1 and the discus with a throw of 77-2. Salamy took first place in the 100 hurdles with a 17.4 and was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team.

Morgan was the top boys runner in the 400 with a 57.4. He also won the long jump with an 18-5.5.

BASEBALL

Peru 7, Lake Placid 1

PERU - The Lake Placid baseball team suffered its fourth-straight loss Thursday as first-place Peru came away with a 7-1 victory.

Conor Casey earned the win on the mound for the Indians after striking out nine over six innings of work. He helped his own cause with a double and a triple.

Ryan Meyer took the mound for Lake Placid, striking out five and giving up nine hits in the complete-game effort. Meyer also hit a single and a double, while teammate Shane McNierney had two of his team's five total hits.

The Indians improved to 9-1 in league play and 10-2 overall. Lake Placid is 3-6 overall.

SOFTBALL

Lake Placid 16, Northern Adirondack 4

ELLENBURG - The Lake Placid softball team relied on abundant offense and strong pitching Thursday as the Blue Bombers downed Northern Adirondack 16-4.

Serina Hayes took care of the pitching duties, going the distance and striking out 10 in the process.

The Blue Bombers racked up 15 hits on the day to go along with no errors. Payton Barney accounted for three of those hits with two singles and a triple. Taylor Maiorca homered and singled, while Liz Bimonte, Adele Jessmer and Emily Godin each singled twice.

Taylor Dunn, Jillian Scott and Amanda Campbell each had two hits for Northern Adirondack.

Boys

Saranac 3, Lake Placid 2

Saranac 5, Lake Placid 0

SARANAC - The Lake Placid boys tennis team got both its wins on three-setters Thursday as the Blue Bombers fell 3-2 to Saranac.

The Saranac girls beat the Blue Bombers 5-0.

Justin Stosiek won his match at third singles after dropping the first set 6-4. He came back to win the second set with a 7-1 tiebreaker, then won the third 6-2.

Lake Placid's other win came at first doubles as David Knapic and Nik Kobe beat Ryan Wood and Aaron Gross, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

In the girls match, the Blue Bombers were on the losing end of three, three-set matches. Brenna Garrett dropped her first singles match against Anna Dorrance 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 and Kayla Hudson lost her third singles match against Emma Newell, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophie Morelli and Grace McGrew dropped their first doubles match 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 against Kristen Napper and Aimee Eggleston.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Saranac Lake 14, Heuvelton 7

HEUVELTON - Bridget Sullivan had six goals and an assist and Kylie Sapone had three goals and an assist to lead the Saranac Lake girls lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Heuvelton on Thursday.

Kennedy Snyder chipped in a goal and two assists and Kaliegh Woodruff scored two goals, while Rita Munn and Alivia Sapone each scored one goal to contribute for the Red Storm.

Saranac Lake improved to 5-4 in league games and 5-5 overall with the victory.

The Bulldogs are 3-8 overall.
