To the editor:
On behalf of Literacy Volunteers of Essex/Franklin Counties, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Rotarians of Lake Placid for hosting another fun-filled Trivia Night on April 18. The proceeds from the evening will support literacy projects within the community, including Literacy Volunteers. Not only did this event raise much-needed funds, but it also raised public awareness. One of out every five adults in New York function below the basic literacy level. These individuals are unable to complete job applications, help their children with homework or balance their checkbooks.
Our organization is fortunate to have community groups like the Rotary Club to help support educational organizations. Many local residents would not receive the necessary assistance to further the education or skills without financial support from groups like the Rotary Club.
Literacy Volunteers would like to send a huge thanks to the Rotary Club of Lake Placid, all Rotarians, all who participated in the event and those who helped make it such a success. We greatly appreciate you support and are looking forward to the next trivia contest!
