SARANAC LAKE - The slate of candidates is set for the May 21 school board election in the Saranac Lake Central School District.

Four people filed petitions to run for the two available seats on the district's Board of Education by Monday's deadline, according to board clerk Christine Fransen. Each position carries a three-year term.

Running for re-election to the board are Esther Arlan and Clyde Baker. Arlan has served two stints on the board, from 1994 to 2003, and from 2008 to present. Baker has been on the board since 2008. Both live in Saranac Lake.

Shir Filler of Vermontville is also on the ballot. She's a North Country Community College English professor and recently served on a committee of district residents that helped interview candidates for superintendent of schools.

Tracey Schrader of Saranac Lake is looking to get back on the board. She served on the board from 2007 until 2012, when she lost her re-election bid. She's the co-owner of Schrader General Contracting.

The school board election will take place May 21, the same day as the district's budget vote. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Enterprise will profile each of the candidates before the election.
