Ti hands Blue Bombers softball a loss

TICONDEROGA - The Ticonderoga softball team scored three runs in the third and three more in the fifth to secure a 6-3 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Lake Placid on Wednesday.

Serina Hayes, a senior, shouldered the pitching duties for the Blue Bombers, striking out nine in the losing effort. Hayes and teammate Lizzie Bimonte each had a triple, while Kelsey Taylor doubled to lead Lake Placid offensively.

The Blue Bombers scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings with a total of five hits.

Logan Mars went 2-for-3 with a home run, Andrea Rich had a double and a triple and Meg Campney singled twice to lead the Sentinels offensively. Ticonderoga had 10 hits in the game.

Lake Placid returns to action today on the road at AuSable Valley, then returns to the same field Saturday for an 11 a.m. game.

BASEBALL

Peru 9, Saranac Lake 2

PERU - The Peru baseball team scored five runs in the first and never looked back Wednesday on the way to a 9-2 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Saranac Lake.

The Red Storm were hampered by eight errors in the game, and the Indians took advantage early. Each team had just four hits.

Grant Strack and Derek Thurber both doubled for Saranac Lake, which fell to 0-2 with the loss.

Mitchell Cunningham had two RBI and Nick Demarais had one to pace the Indians.

Chateaugay 10, Tupper Lake 9

CHATEAUGAY - The Tupper Lake baseball took a four-run lead into the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday, but wasn't able to hold on as Chateaugay rallied for a 10-9 Northern Athletic Conference victory.

The Bulldogs erased a 9-5 deficit with five runs in the sixth. Greg Holmes scored the winning run, while Nick Ashline went the distance on the mound to lead the way for Chateaugay.

Marcus Richer had two singles and a double to spark the Lumberjacks offensively. Tupper Lake outhit the Bulldogs 12-10 in the game.

Cody Smith, Matt Swanston and Zach Cowan each had two hits for Chateaugay.

Tupper Lake is on the road Friday at Parishville-Hopkinton, then plays its home-opener Saturday at 1 p.m. against Madrid-Waddington.
